How Chris asked me to be his wife I’ll never know... 🙈💍 — But really. THIS is what young teens looked like when I was one (does anyone else feel like 15 year olds look 21 these days?!). We layered Hollister and American Eagle like no one’s business, spent way too much on hot chocolate from Starbucks, and bought all our favorites from Claire’s (oh, and full eyebrows weren’t a thing back then - but praise the lord thick is cool today) 🙌🏼. “Fitting in” to be “cool” was what it was all about, and looking back I wish I had known what was ACTUALLY going to be cool 10 years from then - TODAY: . . CONFIDENCE: being YOU for YOU and owning every strength and flaw you possess is far more rewarding on the inside and far more attractive from the outside. — — INDEPENDENCE: I remember I started working at age 15 when all my friends got to take it easy after school. Little did I know how much that work ethic would pay off 10 years later, and how much more the value of a dollar means to me today knowing I didn’t rely on allowance for the things I wanted. — — PATIENCE: does anyone else remember wanting so bad to be “all grown up”? The day is here, people, and it’s not as great as our fantasies made it seem. I still have my goals, 5- and 10- year plans, and things I’m so unbelievably excited to experience, but let’s remember: TIME FLIES. It’s okay if the next 10 are taken with a bit more gratitude and attention for the present. — — RESPONSIBILITY: having something to care for/about is a privilege. This is a sign you’re doing something RIGHT - you’re trustworthy and careful, traits you should feel proud of. — — KINDNESS: bullying was never cool. We’ve all been through it - maybe as the bully, victim, or both at one time or another. Being kind to yourself and others in the face of others’ frustration, doubt, and judgement is a sign of strength and courage. Do it, even when it pains you. . . So there you have it - ⚡️MY 10 year transformation⚡️, and I’m so freaking grateful for it. Growth is a funny thing: we don’t even know it’s happening until we reflect a decade back and see how far we’ve come. Curious and excited for the next 10! 🙌🏼
You really never know what’s going to happen in 10 years.⠀ ⠀ I actually stumbled upon the picture on the left a few days ago. When I saw it, I let out an audible ‘yikes’. But hey. That’ll happen.⠀ ⠀ I feel like too many people are interested in far shorter time periods than 10 years. For example, all of these 4, 8, 12 week trainers promising you to get super lean, lose 30 pounds in 30 days, you know what I mean. Sensational claims that I think we all know are nonsense.⠀ ⠀ A lot has changed for me in the past 10 years. Here are some of the highlights (with some left out):⠀ ⠀ Weight: 280 to 210⠀ Waist size: 40” to 32”⠀ Squat/Bench/Deadlift ???/maybe 150/maybe 200 to 430/325/570⠀ Starting college ➡️ Physician⠀ A1c: 8.8% ➡️ 5.8%⠀ Vermont ➡️ LA ➡️ Chicago⠀ ⠀ And some other awesome life things 😉. ⠀ Point is, you never know where you’re going to be in 10 years. You don’t know what you’ll become. Make positive changes today and the return on investment may be more than you can imagine. It certainly was for me.⠀ ⠀ How hard did aging hit me? Who cares.⠀ ⠀ I’m proud of the last 10 years.
