It’s been a minute since I last posted on instagram. I love this platform for many reasons, but I simply needed a break. I wanted to take some time to think about my goals and future plans for this page. 💫 When I was posting regularly, I often got asked by people if I had given up my job and become an “instagrammer.” It’s so absurd to me that we are often boxed into one single role. Yes, I am a physician but I’m also a girl that loves beauty, skincare, clothes, food and travel. I have never seen myself to fit only a single role in life. I am a person with many passions and talents. If I’m not holding myself back, then why should other people try to hold me back? 💫 So I just want to take a minute to tell everyone - be who you want to be. Do not let society or people tell you what you can or cannot be. You can be more than one thing. You can have more than one career. You can be a doctor and an influencer. Do not be afraid to talk about things that matter to you for the fear of being judged. Do not try to uphold to the standards placed on you by society. Simply know that you are enough! 💫 So cheers to the friends, supporters, IG tribe, and even the haters and doubters, for without the good and the bad I wouldn’t be who I am today ❤️ 💫 Do you guys have other careers? Is this a side gig or full time job? I love learning about you all and meeting new people on this platform xx
MAJOR KEY🔑 I don’t know who needs to see this, but here you go! If you get knocked down, get back up again and try again! It’s okay if you get rejected! You still become a doctor! People are so quick to equate rejection to a sign they aren’t qualified. Rejection is just another opportunity to succeed! So let’s use this setback as an opportunity for a comeback. It’s 2019, so it’s time for a new start! _______ Here are 5 tips to help you become a more competitive applicant for the next cycle: 1.) GPA: if you know your gpa is lacking- fix it. Consider post-bacc or special master program. You can even take courses at local college- you don’t have to be in a program. 2. MCAT: If your MCAT is not hot, retake! 3. Recommendations: Make sure you have solid recs! Teachers, advisors, research coordinator, etc are all good options for recs. 4. Resume build: Make sure your activity list include: research, volunteer, shadowing and extracurricular school programs. 5. Networking: Just like praying will take you places hustling can’t, networking will do the same! Start rubbing some elbows! It ain’t over until it’s over! So roll up your sleeves future docs! Let’s make these dreams happen! You got this! ~Dr. Denmark (@vintagegal84 ) ________ • • • • _______________________________ #projectdiversifymedicine #doctor #medicalstudent #premed #newyork #myblackisbeautiful blackdoctors #medicalschool #ontheblog #naturalgirl #browngirlsblog #blog #dreambig #Brooklyn #melanininmedicine #futuredoctors #fortheculture #HowardUniversity #Meharry #Spelman #browngirl #Morehouse #blackgirlmagic #blackmenwhitecoat
